I consider The Man Who Married Himself an interesting reading since it is something I have never heard before. Maybe, I have heard that getting married was not necessary since we can make a life on our own, yet marrying oneself is not common to hear about. However, this man made it look like something that was needed or usual being that he found his ideal type in himself. Perhaps what led him to make this decision was an impulse which did not let him think it clearly.
I mean the following; a person who feels good being alone, who does not want the joy of being a parent, that does not want to arrive to an empty house; then that person is someone who should be alone and should not get a partner. Though, to marry one you should be totally in love with the person that is “you”. On the other hand, when we talk about the young man in the reading, I would say it was an impulsive act since he married himself because he could not find the ideal woman and did not want to wait any longer. Obviously, we noticed when he decides to be a father and chooses to be unfaithful to himself in order to get divorced.
Nevertheless, I think Oliver made a decent decision. I say this because if he had not made that decision, would probably stayed his whole life wondering if maintaining a relationship with himself would had lasted. Who knows, if he had not met his future wife and mother of his children. Oliver eventhough at the end, he changed his mind and decided to divorce, realized he was not meant to be alone and that he needed company and a family. What I mean is that there are times in life that we must take drastic decisions no matter what other people tell us because that way we will know if they are of our convenience or not. Life is that. You are the creator of your destiny; you make the decisions you think are right and then you will see the results if they are positive or negative.
